Wow 17 m.p.g.

I just finished up the trip from Georgia to Northern Indiana. I got 17 mpg on the way back. I know to some of you guys that is nothing, but since I have never gotten more then 15 mpg out of my 7.3 I am excited. It normally takes me three tanks to drive back, it only took me two this time and I still drove to work this morning on what I had left. I just set the cruise at 69 so I stayed under the 2,000 rpm mark and let her rip.

Sorry I am just excited I didn't think the old girl had it in her.

Sweet.. Sounds like a nice surprise. Now you have an extra $50 to spend on the next mod. Maybe the old girl is telling you something. "i did good didn't I, Now buy me somthing, Maybe a full wash and wax"..

That 2k rpm mark is the sweet spot for me also. Even with the camper. I stick it there and leave it. Even if the cars zoom by me. That fast enough for me.

That's cool. Since I've upped my tire size to 35" I cruise 73 MPH at 2000 RPM.

Last trip I made to Rick's in Louisiana, I made 17 mpg running 75-80 mph for almost 200 miles. This includes some slows due to traffic and a wreck on the interstate. I had just changed my exhaust turbine to a 1.0 before the trip. I averaged 16 the time before. I was running in the 80e both times. I put the 38r on in March and my mpgs are still just as good.

I am glad you are excited... I would be too...

I just bought my van and havent made it through a tank of fuel yet. I have no idea what my MPG is going to be. I hope to get 17 - 20 but we will see.

BTW how do you know you are at 2000 RPM? My van has no gauges to speak of... do you have an after-market one like a scangauge?

We are all running pickup trucks that have a factory tachometer in the gauge cluster.

What year is your van? If it's 2002+ you can get some diag info on the odometer display. To turn that on, push & hold the odo reset button and keep it held when you turn the key to on. Eventually, it will reset the gauges and you can let go. Then start it. Cycle through screens (most of which mean nothing to me) by pressing the button momentarily. Eventually you'll see MPH, Tach, Batt Voltage, etc... A word of warning though: it will reset your odo, so if you're using that keep track of mileage, write down where you are so you can add it in when you fill up.

If you have a 2002 or newer, I'd be interested in seeing if this trick works. The Scan-Gauge will also give you that info, of course even on the older trucks/vans. I'm about to order mine.

Here's a couple pics of the dash showing tach & batt V:

Wow, thanks Joe! I had no idea you could get that info on the odometer display.

Thanks Izzy... My van is a 2000 E350. I think I will get the Scangauge ... it just plain makes sense.
