Well, I am an old timer from the van clubbing days. I was with White Sands Van Club out of Pensacola, Florida from 1977 till 1980. We held the "Boogie on the Beach" truck ins. I know we had vanners from your neck of the woods at our truck ins. We partied with several clubs from Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, and of course Florida. I had my '77 G10 Chevy shorty which was always a work in progress. Never did really finish it. I will have to look and find my old dash plaques again.

Rick

Howdy Rick. yes Me and Sonny Mac were side by sideat your truck in right after Hurricane Hugo went through Mobile . Whew............. I really felt bad for those folks as I had lost everything I had ever owned in Hurricane Agness up in Virginia back in 1973. Course it was no Katrinia . hey we still have some folks that migrated from new Orleans hereass a result of that hurricane too. I tried to help out when they first came . One got a job over at Richmond Airport. Shes still there and she said she plans to stay too.
Hey since yer in Floridia is "Polock Joe " still pinstriping? look you can always e-mail me direct over at edshaver @ymail.com Ed Shaver -Scrubba

Ed,
I left Florida in 1981 when I was discharged from the Navy. Moved to Colorado. I've lost tough with all but one of the old vanners that were members while I was there. I really don't remember Polock Joe, name does sounds a bit familiar but..... I was in Pensacola for Hurricane Freddy, which for the most part was a fizzle there. The eye went right up Mobile Bay, and of all things the storm surge was just the opposite! Sucked water OUT of the bay, leaving the battleship and sub mired in the mud. My ex-wife's son is working in New Orleans on Bourbon Street at a couple of the bars. Haven't heard from him in a few months, probably still recovering from Mardi Gras.

Well Rick. I hope all is still good in Colorado. I wish I could move away from here . I have looked at the areas around North Carolina , but I haven't decided yet . I have family that I help here for the moment . Moving back to allas would be ok If certain things hadn't happened and the school system gone to Mexico . Ed Shaver

Well Ed, kinda looks like we might be the last of a dying breed...... Too bad since the younger folks missed out on some great days back then. I've been trying to remember some of the people I knew from other clubs, but keep drawing a blank. Club names are a blur as well. I do remember Johnny from New Orleans ( I think). He was President of one of the clubs. He and I and our clubs partied together quite a few times. I think I might still be suffering from a hangover! They made a concoction called "Jungle Juice", packed a heck of a whollop!

Still have to get out all my old dash plaques! I just looked where I 'thought' they should be, no luck.....

Any way, let's try to keep this near the top of the forum for a while, maybe attract some others.

Rick
