Recomended starter to buy

Hello all. We might have to replace the starter in the truck. (2wd, 4.2L, auto, 155K miles plus)
Is there a preferred brand of starter? I see most hovering around 135 to 155 dollars. Lots of rebuilts too. Truck is just used for transportation, not work. Thanks, Don.

I have bought starters and alternators from Advance Auto on several occasions over the years.
Never had a problem with any of them.

I just purchased a rebuilt starter from Rockauto, installed it yesterday with no problems, for a 2000 f150 4.2L. with core return of $45 it will be less than $100. truck had original starter, and I have had many NO CRANK issues over the last year. Codes would never show up when it was in the shop, until finally it showed "no amps". Changed to a new battery, ran OK for several months, no issues, then started with the "no crank" again. The brand I bought from Roackauto was BBB. There was a tech bulletin included, showing the ignition lead should be cut back 6", and replaced with the new lead which comes with the rebuilt starter. Hope this helps.
