Identifying the steering wheel nut

I have damaged the threads on the nut and threaded shaft for my 46ford steering wheel. I was planning on using a tap/die to straighten out the threads but can't determine the correct ones to use. It appears to be 5/8'diameter and ?? 20tpi. I wasn't sure if ford used what appears to me, a novice, of an unusual thread. Any information on the correct diameter/tpi would be greatly appreciated...and if in fact it is of an unusual count, where I could find a die to correct the thread. Thanks, phil.

Try the die of the size you think on the shaft, if it goes on with your fingers, it's the right one and it never hurts to clean up the threads. Then use the appropriate tap on the nut.

correct dimensions for the steering wheel nut

FYI the threads turned out to be 5/8" with 18 tpi. Got a die and was able to clean up the threads on the shaft and purchased a nut to fit although it is double the size of the original. Will go through MAC's in the near future to purchase the correct 'thin' nut. Surprisingly it was listed with the measurements in their catalog.
