I've done the Googleing, searched this site up & down, now I know enough to be dangerous . . . But my situation is not answered.
Mine is the '01 F350 PS with auto trans. The only mods are the huge air filter I put on and the valve cover breather by-pass thingy. I'm wanting to chip to add towing power and improve mpg's. I'm not interested at sitting at the light and lighting up all 4's. Some guys get off on that. My needs are more practical.
I tow a 5er that can weigh 12K lbs. I get 10 or less mpg when I do. I live at high altitude (over 6000 feet) and drive at highway speeds often times over mountain pass and camp and hunt at about 10K feet or so.
Which chip would suit be best (or a site that will compare and explain),Superchip, / DP / TS / Edge / Banks / Tony Wildman / Boss / Bully Dog . . .. Are there more???!!!
I would like the feature of changeing settings on the fly and easy to install and set up.

Reason: after thought
DP I think is the most preferred with the 7.3 guys out there. Second I would think would be Tony Wildman tuning.
As to shifting on the Fly, I don't know how well the 7.3 handles with it, but speaking from a 6.0 perspective, shifting on the fly does more harm then good and when you get over the novelty of it all, "you" typically leave it on one setting as it is.
I would go on over to the 7.3 forum and see what those guys say about shift on the fly for that engine, I can only tell you it's not good for the 6.0 or the torqshift.
I've been running DP-Tuner for 4 years now. Jody is a good guy. I just saw him this weekend for live tuning in Denver.
Others that also do a good job are Total Diesel Performance, Power Hungry Performance, and Diesel Innovations.
The big name brands like Superchips, Banks, Bully Dog, Hypertech, and others aren't really the most preferred for 7.3L's.

Tex, switch on the fly is perfectly fine for our trucks, and it's usually the most preferred for 7.3L owners.

Very helpful stuff guys . . . but after going to the DP site, I'm not sure which product would be best for my needs.
F6, X3, or F5?
The F6 looks like the all to end all . . . but @ $400.00!?

F5 and F6 function about the same. The F6 allows you to receive updated tunes via email and load them directly from your laptop. DP-Tuner is phasing out the F5, so they are priced much cheaper. If you want updated tunes to the F5, you have to ship your chip back to DP-Tuner. Turnaround is typically a few days.
The X3 is an SCT programmer and can hold up to 3 custom tunes from DP-Tuner (or anyone else). Since it's a programmer, it doesn't switch tunes on the fly. You have to have the engine off, and load tunes to the PCM to switch from one setting to the next. Takes about 2 minutes to switch between tunes.

We are not discontinuing the F5. It will always be available.
The F6 has much more technology behind it. It has been designed with a burner function right on the chip to be able to download tunes from our web server to your laptop. You do nto need to remove teh chip from the PCM to burn to it. We supply you with all the progamming cables. You're able to try tunes before you buy them and if we add more functions or features there's no need to send it back for those updates. This is a great product for those who plan on updating their trucks or live out of the country. Never send chips back/forth for tweaks or have several different pieces of bulky equipment to reburn your chip.
