Check out Craigslist Corvallis/Albany:

four speed tranny with 3 speed brownie - $500 (Sweet Home)

Sounds interesting for one of your older 2wd cruisers.

jalopy45 is starting off with a positive reputation.

I have one in my Flying Purple Pickle ('71 Chev C50 ramp truck) it'd an under/direct/over and it works great behind a 454.
