Exclamation a/c blows cold but, then blows like the heat is on

Okay, I have checked the clutch issue and I have read the sticky damper door thread but, non of these seem to fit my problem?
The a/c blows cold when it has a mind too but, in a mere few seconds it will blow like you turned the temp control to boil. go a little while then the a/c blows ice cold again. The compressor never misses a beat on the the back and forth.
Any help would be great!
I am headed out with the family for a 1500 mile trip in two weeks and a/c would keep the masses happy!

That's a classic symptom of a broken blend door shaft or faulty Blend Door Actuator. Hope it's just the actuator, the new (possibly redesigned) plenum is pricy.
What is the vehicle?

Pyrodave how long did it take you to r&r the blend door and actuator. My pu. had the same problems last summer so I guess I will be doing this soon.

Sorry it took so long to reply!
I have not had email for about 3 weeks!
The over all project took a good 8 hours over 2 days.
chances are it is the blend motor and not the blend door.
that can be done without removing everything. It is accessible under the blend box on the hump. You can start there and try that first but, the motor is he expensive part and the blend door not so much. good luck if you haven't started yet and if you have completed it let me know how it turned out!

Dave, my truck is doing the exact same thing (and YES, I read the sticky above, but like others have said in the MANY posts I've read through about this problem, it's too vague to determine if it fits my situation) and seems to turn on the heat randomly and when I give it fuel or downshift, the air starts blowing cold again. It just started doing this, and living in AZ it's not as good thing to NOT have properly working A/C. How do you feel it's probably the motor and not the door?

I looked for the pics in your gallery but it says you don't have any.

Yes, and I also WROTE those FAQs. They provide a lot of information that covers the most common issues seen on these trucks.

Gee, you just wandered in the door and that was all YOU had to contribute?

Good luck on your future projects. Perhaps someone else will take pity on you, but it won't be me!

I DID try the FAQ's but could find NOTHING that fit my exact problem. Except YOU directing everyone to the FAQ's. Everything I could find had something to do with acceleration and air coming through the defrost...I don't want pity...Or did I wander onto the Pity forum???
