New transmission
I have a 93 f-250 460 4wd i use this truck as a daily driver an some times to play in the mud. But my question is my torq converter is going out in my e40d it will cost 500$ for a new one but i was think to put in a c6. Would it be cheaper to get every thing to bolt up a c6 then getting a torq converter. Also since it is a daly drive would a c6 be a good idea since it has no over drive. In long term would it be worth puting in a c6 with the price of gas?

the biggest problem i see with putting a C-6 into this truck is that the E4OD is a computer controlled tansmission as where the C-6 isn't. so you might have a problem with your computer not working correctly if you disconnect the transmission harness and leave the wires loose.
you might be able to use a computer from a 5 speed truck as they don't have anything for the transmission.
not 100% sure if above is correct, but i can't see it working properly and you will probably get a lot of error codes.
maybe someone who has done this swap will chime in.

Fix what you have, so you can keep the OD for mileage.
Are you suffering from good old, Ford, torque convertor shudder?
There are additives for that, if the clutch facing isn't to far gone. Talk to a reputable transmission shop about it.
Might be, a fluid flush and filter change and the additive will line you right out.
Good Luck.

look here for a $195 tc
Ford F-250 / F-350 / F-450 / E4OD / 4R100 / Torque Converter
or upgrade to a billet unit for $400-
I'd keep the e4od and band aid it with a tc and a valve body or a shift kit until you can do a good rebuild on it. Or check the classifieds here, I remember seeing a strong rebuilt e4od for around $900, I think.

Well, ATF in your bell housing would indicate the front seal is leaking.
The noises your mentioning just flat out don't sound good. Could be the TC, front pump?
The only TC failure I've ever had was from my son doing a major burnout with my swapped out, modded 460 in an 82 F-250 4x4. It grenaded the stock TC.
Maybe someone here with more tranny experience can chime in. Sounds like you may need to be looking for a good tranny shop in your area.
Good luck.
