'92 AOD Hard Downshifts

Got a 1992 F150 AOD behind a 302. Here's situation, I'm traveling down city street at about 45mph and then totally release gas pedal. Truck begins slowing and when it downshifts from OD to 3rd it is a very hard downshift. Also, when going up a large hill with cruise control and it has to downshift from OD to 3rd, the shift is pretty hard. I've read several old posts and have found that perhaps the valve bodies need retorqueing. I checked the fluid it it isn't brown or burned smelling. Should I change fluid/filter and retorque? Any other ideas?

Thanks,
BL...

Talk with somebody about adjusting the Throttle valve linkage. I'm not certiain if it's quite the same with 92 as what I've delt with...but Bauman Baurman Baumann (sp?) engineering has some info on adjusting the throttle valve.
