Have you read this thread?? If you have the time, it's worth it.

RV.Net Open Roads Forum: Dometic Refer Recall - Possible Fire Hazard -Update 2/13/07

I would be firm with Dometic in having it replaced under warranty or recall.

In post #1 of the thread, read update #5

Good Luck

I called Dometic and they said: The tubes can crack at anytime and the recall was just to stop the fire.

If you read the thread I linked, many people have got Dometic to pay for the DESIGN failure..Threaten them with a call to the NHTSA.Go higher up the Dometic food chain!

So after 2 phone calls and 3 e-mails this is what I got back from Dometic:

In response to a potential safety-related problem, Dometic has initiated a recall in compliance with applicable federal regulations. A secondary burner housing, when retrofitted to affected refrigerators, at Dometic expense, resolves the identified safety problem. Dometic developed and placed secondary burner housing kits into the field through service centers throughout the United States and Canada. The secondary burner housing created by Dometic has resolved the safety issue with respect to any affected refrigerators.

Dometic is not replacing cooling units or refrigerators under the recall program. If a unit fails and is within Dometic’s original manufacturer’s warranty it is covered as part of the normal warranty repair. However, no product lasts forever, and if the unit is beyond the standard warranty and the customer has elected not to purchase an extended warranty or the extended warranty has expired: then all repairs for any failures would be the responsibility of the consumer.

Thank You

Recall Department
Dometic, LLC

I had the recall done before we left for Alaska last spring and the only thing it did for us was cause a 12V electrical short when we where in the Yukon , Have you ever been attacked by 10K flying vampires while you are trying to fix something it's the biggest joke I have seen in a long time.

Dometic will not replace cooling units under the recall. I have replaced many of the units due to leaks and blockages. It is a fairly simple and straightforward job. I do most alone in 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
