Anyone put a 5 speed behind a 223 6 Cylinder

I am still trying to find the truck a I want to buy, and I am wondering if anyone has found a way to put a 5 speed behind a 223 6 Cylinder? I would like to put one behind a stock engine. Later I might want to change to a 300, but for now I would leave the stock engine in place if possible.

Check out www.ford-y-block.com, scroll down to the T-5 to F-100 adaptors link.

Thanks a ton. You have just helped me a ton. I can now hopefully find a truck that will be a good truck for me.

Red face Has anyone put a T-5 in a 57-60?

Has anyone put a T-5 in a 57-60? I am wondering how to deal with the issue of the shift shaft coming out so far back?

I think I read that you need a T5 out of some Chevy truck (S10 maybe?).

There's a 4-speed that bolts to the 223, and a Clark 5-speed that uses that bellhousing (which is not the same as the 3 speed bellhousing). If you changed the rear axle ratio to 3.00, 4th or 5th would seem like overdrive compared to the 3 speed top gear. There is an overdrive version of the Clark, but those are even rarer. Maybe a transmission specialist can turn a regular Clark into the OD version.

Smile T-5 out of a Mustang

Another Member found you can get the a bell housing converted from FORD Y for a Mustang T-5 Overdrive. My primary concern is that it looks like the shifter comes out of the rear of the transmission, and I theorize it would put the shifter under the seat. I just want to know if anyone has done this and how they over came it. Hopefully they didn't use bucket seats, because I want my truck to look stock.

i've seen this question with pictures providing solutions... the shifter in those trucks came out right in front of the seat and they had a bent shifter bar attached. Can't remember who had those pictures though. try using the advanced search option instead of the simple search; that way you can specify which forum to look thru
