Went to an airshow in NE

Yup, flew up to Fairmont NE to watch an airshow. To start the show they had a P-51 take off and then a rare P-38. The Mustang had a nice depature and then the 38 rolled up. He applied thottle and you could hear the whine of the twin superchargers and he wasn't even at max power. The 38 made it 3/4's of the way down the 4300 ft strip when the right wheel blew. BOOM. I could see him fighting it and he was able to get it shut down before exiting the runway. Plane was ok but it really jacked up the airshow. Where do you find a tire for a P-38?

I was able to taxi and takeoff from the runway. The skid marks where unreal! Very black and nearly 1k long. I wished I could have taken a picture or two but I was kinda busy taxing my plane with a Tomahawk in front and a Yak behind me.

I love those old planes too. I'm glad to read the P-38 wasn't destroyed.

You and me both. I almost start getting a nervous twitch every time I see one fly.

Hearing the whine of the superchargers was almost a religous experience.

Here is link showing the P-38 before the tire blew. Two of the boys are mine and the third is a young eagle.

Tornados, hail, wind, what's next? I have to call my insurance company today for the hail damage to the house and vehicles.

Dan and others, There will be a display of WW2 vintage aircraft at the Salina airport from July 8-10. The display will include a B-17, B-24 and a P-51 Mustang. For a measlely donation of $2000 you can get 1/2 hour of stick time in the P-51. For $425 you can ride in one of the bombers. This may be the same planes that were in NE.

Check the Salina Journal online edition for more info.
