68 front bumper

i accidentally replied to a two year old thread about this issue so i decided to start fresh with a new thread. with pictures.
what i have is a 1968 ford 250.

from the looks of it the guy started to restore it of modify it and never got around to finishing it and decided to use it for transporting pigeon feed. the first thing i need to do is find bumpers so that i won't get a ticket. i went to an auto wreckers and he said that i could use anything from 1965 to 1977. the best bumper i found was off a 1976.

when i got it home i realized that it did not match up.

the bolt pattern doesn't look the same and the bumper brackets are about an inch too wide on both sides then my frame brackets. i tried to get a picture to show you but it was a bit hard being that i only had to arms but there is one of just the back of the bumper and just one of the frame brackets.

so did i get the wrong bumper? is my truck jacked up? should look for another bumper or just modify what i have? i'm pretty new to this. i've always loved older fords but i'm also mechanically retarded and often rely on others but i do try to do whatever i can myself and i was hopeing i could at least do the bumpers myself. any help would greatly be appreciated. i hope the pictures help.

To my knowledge. Front bumpers from 67 to 72 are not enterchangable with 73 to 79's. Because of the different width in their frames. As read in a different post, you can alter the frame to adjust to your bumper. However, I would just go back and return the bumper that you got and look for another one from 67 to 72. I know their out there, you just need to keep looking if you are wanting a used one. I live in rural Idaho, and we have Ford's of these years all over the place. If I can help you locate one, just ask.

i live in modesto california. they had other fords at the wrecking yard. this bumper was just the cleanest one and the guy said it would fit so i took it. he said that if it didn't fit i could take it back so i'll just go back and get another one. i need to go back any way and get a rear. any advice on a rear? i bought the truck with no bumpers so i don't really have anything to reference.

zombi you have to remove those bracket and install the bumper directly on to the frame. it should bolt right up. you could use a cut off wheel to remove the bolts. 67-72 do not use brackets. 64-78 frames in front of the cab are the same no changes. the 73 and newer frames behind the cab are longer and wider.

for the rear bumper u should be able to use a bumper from 64-72 they do have brackets to bolt up to the frame.

Remove these two brackets, which were used on 1973/77 F250/350's and bolt the bumper directly to the frame horns on your 1968 F250.

C4TZ17757D .. Chrome Front Bumper
Both fit: ALL 1964/77 F100/350's, will also fit 1978/79 F100/350's.

Am I late to the party with this info? No, because I typed this exact same info into your other thread yesterday morning.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Styleside rear bumpers used on 1973/79 F250's & F350's with the narrow frame are the same as 1964/72.

The most common 1973 and later trucks to use these bumpers are 1973/77 F250 4WD's aka "High Boys."

C4TZ17906B .. Chrome Rear Bumper
Both fit: 1964/72 F100/350's / 1973/79 F250/350's with rear frame rails that are 33 1/2" apart.

a couple of co workers were talking about using a front bumper as a rear bumper. one of them says that he thought he saw a kit that helps convert it. has anyone seen this or has tried it?

i don't know y you would want to do that you would not have any tag light and that would not pass inspection. you will need to get some brackets for the rear bumper any way and they did put a small chrome one on the rear that looked like the front here is npd parts page (http://npd.dirxion.com/WebProject.as...Code=frd07flx#) its on page 220-221. you will see on the bumper bracket and bumper on the right page. the bumper is painted black in there illustration but you can get them chrome. i know your going to by salvage yard ones but this gives you a good look at what your after i hope. as you will see you can use 64-72 bumper brackets. the 73-79 will not work due to the rear frame being wider.

also you can use part of a truck bed as a roll pan for the rear bumper, if you have an interest i can find the thread where i read it.

Skinny we dont have any inspection here in cali, only smog but not on trucks 1976 or older so the government will prob never see this truck unless he gets stoped by some cops.

But not having a rear license plate light is good probable cause for them to pull you over at night just to hassle you and see what else they can find.
