I have a 2002 ranger 4X4 4.0 SOHC with a 5r55e,I picked up a wrecked 2000 ranger 4X4 4.0 OHV with what I think is a 4r55e.Can I put the 4r55e in my '02 in place of the 5r55e? Is the bell housing/T.C. the same and will the electronics work? I replaced the valve body and seperator plate on the '02 and I still have no 5th gear and my O/D light is flashing. So I am ready to change trannies unless somebody has some insight on this. How do I tell if the tranny from the 2000 is a 4r55e or a 5r55e. Thanks,Steve.

 

You'll probably run into problems. The '00 tranny doesn't have an intermediate-shaft-speed (ISS) sensor, which your '02 does have.

The o/d light indicates that the overdrive is activated. The button on the end of the gearshift turns the O/D on and off. Could it be that simple, that the button is defective and is turning the O/D off?

Did you replace the valve body\seperator plate or just take it off and clean it?
