Carbon canister & emission crap

06 5.4 3v. So the canister was plugged and couldnt fill my gas tank. I took advice from this site, drilled holes in it and emptied the canister and now it fills beautifully. But, the engine light is on, so what can I do? Any way of fooling the sensor to shut it off? or just replace the canister? Thanks.

The emissions tests are rather particular for the evap system and I doubt you can readily beat them with a holey canister.

I just want to get rid of the check engine light the easiest way possible, with out taking the bulb out. which i am tossing around the idea of. Im not worried about emissions, as I live in canada so as long as the truck runs its good enough for me

From what I understand, the fuel tank pressurizes itself from time to time to check for leaks for emmissions purposes, you will not be able to defeat that. I installed a transfer fuel tank and had a problems with that when I cut the vent hose the tank would not fill, there must be some kind of valve that closes or something. I put on two electric solenoid valves on the transfer lines that only open when the pump is on, that took care of it but it trips the cel sometimes, I just re-set it. I think it throws the p-0442 code indicating a emissions leak.
