Cats . . .

06 5.4 3v, My exhaust needs replacing and its a farm truck so cheap is good. I want to get rid of the cats, but what can be done to stop the chech engine light? It has 5000 hrs on it, lots of idling time, lots! as its only got 55,000 miles! Could the cats be plugged by now? Thanks

The emissions system might still be under warranty, I'd start looking there if you haven't already.

It should be still under warranty, if it was caused by an engine problem though they will try to make you pay for the emissions equipment repairs.

It'll be listed in the owners manual, it is longer than the 3/36 but I can't remember how long seems like 5 years.

Emissions warranty is a "hidden warranty" that usually is not discussed and happens to be 7 years/70,000 miles.
