Does anyone know where the vss is located on a 98 Explorer 4X4?

 

The wiring diagram indicates the sensor in the rear end serves as the VSS input to the abs. There is also another VSS sensor in the tail housing of the transmission that is used by the powertrain control module to calculate vehicle speed in mph and determine shift scheduling and electronic pressure control.
