When i was 13 I got my first truck (83 f350)and my father showed me the basics. Then about 8 years ago i worked at a body shop as the mechanic/tow truck driver and i kept an open eye on how to do things. But i have done about 8-9 complete over all paint jobs and this is my second frame off resto.
My 83 mid way
My 83 done. Nicest truck in the high school parking lot

Fixed it. Sorry. And mind you . I was only 16-17 when i did that truck out in the driveway. I am no god at body work but i know what is right and what is half ass. I dont do half ass. If i cant do it right, It does not get done, I'll take it to someone that can do it right.
I see alot of the time people taping of things like cab lights, door handle, window and the such, That is half ass to me. If it can come off, it come off and the hole gets taped shut from the back side.
the right 1 is there now, my truck is far from the nicest at my highschool. but its not the worst and its kind of a work in progress. wish i knew how to do body work.
wow.....i would love to have that truck!!!!! nice resto!

Great attitude, wish more folks had your work ethic that way. And that 83 came out great. 79 is coming out great too so far...going to be ready for that show next month?

No. I just got called back to work. I start the job monday. It is going to be 5 ten hour days. For about 2-3 months. And it is about 2 hours from my house
I knew you could weld real well (that frame patch I'd seen before--VERY nice!) but I didn't know you could paint like that, too--damn!
I painted heavy construction equipment the summer right after high school, and like you, my Dad had showed me the basics, on my '72 shortbox, prior to that. He taught me to gas weld and braze, and I now have a MIG. But Dude, you're in another league.
Is doing clear coat difficult? I mean, compared to say, a simple enamel?
What model Millermatic is that? I have a Millermatic 150 (they're smallest 240v machine, from about 11-12 years ago) that I really like.
I LOVE that slate blue GM color! While I was in grad school, I paid to have a car painted--BIG mistake! The guy didn't even buy the right color! I wanted a 'Vette color ('83 Nassau blue, I think--very similar to what you sprayed here) and he picked some generic semi-royal blue.
Basically, I'm just jealous--LOL! Jealous of your mad skills and bitchin' garage. Like the radiators, lights and exhaust fan--DAMN!
Keep it up, man, and good luck with the new job.

Thanks BigSix1
The welder is a Miller 210. I love it! I can weld thin sheet metal up to 1/2" plate steel
As for clear coat. It is easier than single stage. you lay down the color first. I as many coast as you need to cover. And it has about a 10 min flash time as opposed to 30 min w enamal. As for the clear.... you just put it on like another coat of paint. Everyone has their own preference on how to do it but i do it in two coats. One light , tack coat . then one heavy second coat to make it smooth.
