Can anyone tell me if it is possible to swap a Lightning Camshaft to a 1996 5.0L 302 that comes with factory roller cam and lifters?
Both of these engines have the same firing order 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
(same as 5.0 HO)
So if it will fit....will it work? Hmmm?
Maybe this would be a good combination...whats your opinion?
well, sorry to say, but the cam from a lightning will not wor in your 96 f150. you know that you have a roller ca, but the lightning never came with a roller cam, why that and mass air, i will never know. your best bet would be to use a Ford motorsports cam, such as an E303, f303, etc. i am using an E303 in my 95 f150, but i am currently changing over to mass air to handle the changes of the heads, intake, cam, etc. sorry, but the cams will not interchange, they will, but i would not trade a standard hydraulic for a roller. any other help, let me know, good luck.
The Lightning cam would work in your newer model truck, but you would have to use none roller lifters. But, I wouldn't suggest using it, because the stock cam in the 96 model is a larger profile than the Lightning. That is one of the biggest mysteries to me is why they used such a small cam in the Lightning. If I was you, I would swap in the Motorsport E303.
