Chips, do they help?
How big of an improvement will a chip REALLY make? I see inflated claim, 25 hp, 30 hp, 20 hp! Does it make a difference with the Lightning? Since the Lightning requires 92 octane, wouldn't it already be "chipped" from the factory? How could a superchip improve on something Ford is specifically building for speed? Sorry for all the questions, I'm considering buying a Lightning and need to know what I'm getting into.

yo,
Maybe the chip could do that, but the cost for one from a Ford Racing dealership in NJ is $425.00..and you are correct about the octane rating. Superchip says their chip will let you go to hi octane fuel...i too wonder if it is worth the price.
Also, I have a 96 Bronco that has most of the after market performance "accessories" already built in, such as the cold air intake tube that runs to the grille (no need for a $250.oo K&N tube set up here);
and a nice insulated blanket for the battery and a starter heat shield.
I agree with the previous replier to your message...i'd spend the money on a cat back exhaust (stainless steel, so it will last almost forever..~ $600.00) and keep that truck in pristine condition with lottsa washing, oil changes, fluid flushes, etc.
Good luck!
