2002 7.3L Turbo Flutter

Looking for in put on turbo flutter problem. I run a tymar intake, super chips tuner, 4" SST open exhaust.

Q: Do i shorten or lengthen the waste gate actuator rod to eliminate the turbo flutter?

Thank you in advance,

Bob

Neither!

The only reason you do that is to blow up your turbo and/or compressor wheel.

You either need a new compressor wheel from BD Diesel aka Wicked Wheel (cheaper option)

Or a 1.0 A/R housing from (I forget who)

The compressor wheel solved my problem 100%.

It is called surge, 7.3's will get it when chipped. You can hear it because of
the Tymar. With the stock filter you wont hear it, but it will still do it and destroy
the turbo after awhile. There are 2 solutions...

1 - This will cure it.. ATS ported housing (I did this) $350 or so

2 - Usually cures it... Wicked Wheel - but creates more turbo noise $75 or so

Also, get custom chip by Total Diesel Performance or DP.. So much better
than that super chip...

Adjusting the wastegate won't blow up your turbo, your right foot and inattention will.
Check with Clay (Riffraff Performance) to get a good deal on either the ported shroud housing, a wicked wheel, or a 1.0 A/R exhaust housing.

That's what it was, because I thought about it long after I posted: people unplug their wastegates all the time and nothing bad happens.......until you over do it."

Definitely check with Clay, the man does good business and knows how to take care of his customers.

Thanks for clearing that up Chase.

If you exceed 22PSI of boost on a 7.3L you will need a boost fooler to prevent a high boost code. There are a few other ways to get more boost, a $5 bleed tube and $5 boost fooler or an adjustable wastegate that unlike the bleed tube will prevent wastegate creep, assuming you have the power to generate the turbo drive pressure. I am not just here to make a profit guys, I am here to assist first and sell second. heck... if you like the bleed tube and boost fooler are so inexpensive I will send them to you no charge if you like, just pay this shipping and read my catalog.

Its all in the right foot baby And just for info in this thread, 25 psi is the "break point" for efficiency with the stock turbo- anything over that and you are just blowing superheated air into your motor, and not doing your turbo any favors either.
Dave (BD Power)- what is this $5 boost fooler you speak of? I know what the bleed tube is, but what about the fooler?

Ahh, the old "ground the MAP sensor signal" trick. Supposedly that has an effect on fueling since the MAP never sees any boost at all.

Ya it is a eassy fix to the CEL,

Negative on the fueling issues, we did testing with Edge way back in 2000 on that theory and seen zero fueling changes. We include the boost fooler kit with every Edge Evolution Sold.
