Variable valve timing

I have heard that the 5.4 has variable valve timing. Is there a specific RPM point where the valve timing change occurs? Does it alter only the exhaust valve timing?

I think it's technically VCT (variable cam timing). No idea when it does it, but I thought it was a variable thing as the RPM/load requires.

Vct

For a pretty good "generic" explanation, look here:

How Variable Cam Timing Works VCT

I believe that Ford also uses it to control the exhaust gases remaining in the cylinder and thereby eliminating the EGR system.

Thanks for the link David. That's a nice explanation of the system. I see that it is actived all the time by the PCM.
