wow, that is odd.

I'd start with checking all your grounds, making sure you got them and they have good connections. Approx 90% of all elelctrical problems are due to bad grounds and they can cause all sorts of weird things to happen.

You need a good ground from the battery to the frame, from the engine to the frame, and from the body to the frame. Looks can be decieving, take them loose and wire brush all the rust, scale, and paint from them and try again.

Smile Wired and Fired!

So I installed a new coil, points, condenser, cap, rotor and wired in a ballast resistor and she fired right up! I love it when things work well.

Whats the point gap on those old 292's? I gaped it at about 14-16. Didn't check the dwell... should I?

14-16 sounds about right. Heck back in the day I just used a matchbook cover to set the points
