Anyone know what this is on the floor of my truck??

I got this truck last summer and I've been wondering what this is? It gets pretty warm when driving.

Have you looked under the truck, corresponding to the location of the piece, and see if it's holding something in place?

LOL No, I haven't. That would make too much sense!
I might do that today, tho. Today is vehicle maintenance day anyway.

Considering it is on top of the carpet it is definitely not factory. Some shade tree mechanic doohicky. I second looking under the truck.

If it is warm my guess is it has something to do with the exhaust. I don't know what else would be under the truck that could cause that to heat up to a noticeable amount that as small of a piece of metal as that is could potentially support. If the exhaust system is not stock that would definitely be my assumption. Maybe an extra hangar to allow a particular exhaust pipe flow/pattern? Maybe it was easier dropping rods through the floor of the truck (hanging off that strip you see above the floor) to the right place than it was to make a bracket that fit up underneath the truck?

^^I second that. Every vehicle I've ever purchased with aftermarket exhaust was poorly cobbled together and installed by a 16-year-old. Even the quality, full kits can be screwed up by a hack in his driveway.

Ya, that pc. is definitley not a factory part.

Maybe. I don't think it's aftermarket exhaust. This was a 1 owner truck purchased by an older retired guy. He towed a 5th wheel all over the country with it.
I'm gonna take a look underneath a bit later today.

So where exactly on the floor is this? You could be right about someone mounting something. My Dad was a gadget freak, and he usually had all kinds of things mounted all over his vehicles. This could just be a piece of metal to plug the holes, or was used to mount the whatever it was.

Right in the center of the trans tunnel.

Looks like a CB mount to me. Are there any holes in the console or dash where a mic mount would have gone?

If you can still contact the prior owner, just ask him.

Maybe it was for something magnetic to stay put, like a flashlight.

It's a mount for a layover, for catching meddlers...
