Considering it is on top of the carpet it is definitely not factory. Some shade tree mechanic doohicky. I second looking under the truck.
If it is warm my guess is it has something to do with the exhaust. I don't know what else would be under the truck that could cause that to heat up to a noticeable amount that as small of a piece of metal as that is could potentially support. If the exhaust system is not stock that would definitely be my assumption. Maybe an extra hangar to allow a particular exhaust pipe flow/pattern? Maybe it was easier dropping rods through the floor of the truck (hanging off that strip you see above the floor) to the right place than it was to make a bracket that fit up underneath the truck?

Maybe. I don't think it's aftermarket exhaust. This was a 1 owner truck purchased by an older retired guy. He towed a 5th wheel all over the country with it.
I'm gonna take a look underneath a bit later today.

So where exactly on the floor is this? You could be right about someone mounting something. My Dad was a gadget freak, and he usually had all kinds of things mounted all over his vehicles. This could just be a piece of metal to plug the holes, or was used to mount the whatever it was.
