AOD Transmission Recommendations for a 408W

What AOD transmission would work behind a 408W with 450-500HP? It will be going in a 1980 F100. Thanks!

No stocker, you will need a beefed trans. 2wd?

AOD Transmission from PATC, AOD Transmissions

www.CKPerformance.com

TCI - Ford AOD, AODE and 4R70W

What you end up with is an '88-93 core, with 4R70W parts, and other parts replaced to strengthen the trans.

$2000+

A couple guys here have posted saying they've run similar transmissions with good results. Many people post here with AOD problems, so beware, it's a weak sister in stock form, requires some special care and feeding to adjust, and is expensive compared to a C4 or C6 in extra strength formula.

The payoff is the lower first gear and OD.

Good info, thanks for the links, I would love to have one of those, but too much $. How do you think a c-4 would hold up? I found one on Craigslist that is supposedly "built up".

C4s can take a lot of power if built correctly. Personally, I would not buy a performance item like a trans from other than someone with a warranty and a track record. Buying a manifold or headers, yea. Maybe a carb, maybe even a manual trans. But not a performance automatic.

The companies in the above links also sell C4 transmissions and parts. You can review their offerings, prices, etc, and compare what they do with what is claimed to have been done to any other box you are considering.

Again, beware. A shift kit does not make a hi-po trans for example.
