I hear ya, fabbing correctly is an art form in its self, in this case all the caging on the truck is bolted to the sides of the frame with poly bushing so it can flex and not crack the cab apart, the rear cage is modular and can be removed from the truck, these trucks are not for everone and are hard to price, I'm located in San Fernado Valley Ca, thanks for all you input and help with the links and everything.

good choice on the poly cage mounts.

My truck will have the cage bolt to the frame - but no poly mounts.

The body will be solid mounted to the frame and welded to the cage. The cage will then be solid mounted to the frame as well. That way the cage and body come off as one, and with EVERYTHING solid mounted you don't get the flex in the body vs. rigidity on the frame and therefore cracks in the body.

Anyways - sorry for the off topic in your post. It looks like a fun truck - good luck with the sale!

thanks for the good wishes, and I can't wait to see some pic's of your truck, sounds like your have a very good idea of how you want to build it... are you going to use a leaf spring rear suspension, and what front set up are you going to use? Good luck with your build!

I have a good idea of what I want because I have been doing this for a while, and thinking on the truck for a while.

For simplicity the front will start off with Autofab beams and the rear will be leaf sprung (although 64" chevy leafs).

Once I drive the thing anf have fun for a bit I will be modifying/custom making a set of beams and center mounted radius arms. I'll the BIG E-350 beams (maybe F-350 beams) and use front steer E-350 spindles with a custom 2.5" hollow snout. That way I can run race hubs that match the ones on my 9" full floater I have for the rear.

If you haven't - take a look at the ranger in my gallery. My 74 F-100 is replacing that because I don't have the time to finish it...

Therefore it's smarter (and cheaper) for me to build from scratch.

I asked price to see where you were at. I may have mis-spoken when I said you were high price wise. Run it at that and see what you can get. For a running, smog exemt truck with a full cage you might get that price.

Here's a couple trucks that would be your competition. Well - if you live in So. Cal. Which reminds me - where are you/the truck located?

Old School

also - the brown 68 truck 1/2 way down page 47 here was for sale for $4500 for a long time (3 months or more). It had a supposed race built 351m (boat anchor) and some nice parts
Desert Rides • View topic - Old skool ford guys!

This truck is another level, but it still seems a bit overpriced

if you ever want to go check out that last truck i would love to go be a perspective buyer

Which truck are you talking about?

Not that it matters as I'll help with any of them.

Also - I know where a 77 short bed is for $2500 - it's a good truck at a GOOD deal. It's only problem is it is still eligable for smog (though I think it passes!).

PM me for details on that one

*edit* - I get it now - I'm a retard... My buddy has seen that truck and it's nothing spectacular though kinda cool. It's all the way down in Hell Cajon though - so it's a bit of a drive to tire kick...

i have very little interest in "dentsides" the body isnt the worst but i cant stand the gauges along with no interest in trying to smog a carbed truck, and would much rather build a rally car for this type of off roading.

1st off - sorry Fordester for the
but I have to reply to mr. redbeard here

Can't stand the guages??? Trying to smog a carbed truck???

My 74 supercab will have a custom aluminum dash with all autometers. And as for smogging - you only have to smog 76 and newer. That leaves 73-75 open and 76-79 open to "body mods" that will help your cause
For my 74 it's smog exempt, but it's hopefully getting a megasquirt fuel injection system, so it won't have a carb anyways

So my point is - neither of the above are reasons to shun a 70's Ford

When my 74 is done (or even half way done) I'll run it agains you're little focus anyday - hahaha

(before I get heat for this post - please note Brady and I are friends and he knows I'm kidding - partially)

just wait tell i put an escape 4wd and V6 drive train OR do the V8 rwd convertion, but that will probably never happen. BUT once i build my rally car i would love to give you a run for your money. i am thinking a mid 80s benz diesel turbo would be different but fun.

Escape???? Last time I checked you were a male and those are, well a CHICK SUV. Girlish man! Haven't you ever heard me rip on Suzy's nissan murano? Hahahaha

I've got a buddy who messes with the newer benz diesel's a lot. Now that could be a cool platform!

ahh - Ok - that makes it a LITTLE less wussy!

Back on topic - I saw this thing on RDC classifieds. Looks good and I like the price - it should sell pretty easy. I was looking at pics again and noticed the engine cage was a stand alone unit. I see it obviously has a pretty big bedcage that I assume comes into the cab?

Since I am a pic ***** and collect pics of these old trucks built like this - do you have any interior or cage pics you could post or send me???

*edit" - I found the pics on the car domain link - never mind my request. BUT in coming back here I see got bleeped. You can't say who re on here???

*edit #2* I was thinknig even more and you might also want to post this on www.dezertrangers.com
Ditch the description of who autofab is in the text when you do that though. The guys on that site rip on people all the time and with that in there they'll think you're new to the game and let fly. A bunch of idiots on that site, but it gets a TON of viewers and it should sell pretty quick on there. After looking at the pics a bit longer/more - if I hadn't just bought a truck for a project I'd be in talks with you about buying the thing - it looks nice and the price is right! Good luck.

Np for the highjack, but lets get back on topic, your Ranger looks great so far but lets get it finished up so we can meet in the desert for some good old fashion prerunnin!! I've started working on The Beast and wanted to upgrade my tranny to an OD unit, is it worth the money or should I stick with the c6 and just get it rebuilt, what do you think??

that ranger will NEVER be done, atlest by Steve (chasetruck), now his crew or new extended cab trucks should be sweet.

you cant beat a c6 but if it will be a street truck too an od would be nice.

Thanks for the heads up Red Beard, I think I'm going to put a c6 back in it and eventually get a gear venders OD unit for it, I want to use it for both street and occasional off roader so I think that's my best route, again thanks man and I can't wait to see and hear more about your Rally car, sounds like good fun!
