dieseldude,
There is no front support bushing in a 5831 box. On the front input shaft there is the bearing a spacer and a second bearing not a bushing. Shaft to front bearing retainer would be 550311. number 550055 is the case to input shaft support bearing.
550311 is 209 BCA or Timken. 550055 is 1309-L BCA or Timken.

Sometimes I don't read all the details.
Left the building myself for a while.

Any ideas? No data plate or manufacturer names anywhere, just the stamped numbers you see in the pic.

Papecat...I have a transmission just like this and mine has the tag on it. It is a Watson Transmission and below that it says Brown-Lipe Gear Division and under that is Spicer. My model # is 42MI and it is over, under and direct drive. You can get a rough idea of the ratios of the gears by marking the input shaft and turn it one turn and see how many turns you get on the out put shaft. If they would let me post my pictures I could show you the tags and the transmission. I have a 5831 in a Chevy and it works good. I don't think it make any noise in overdrive as some are a bit noisey. My engine is a 4-53T Detroit Diesel and you can't hear much over the scream it makes, ha ha.

Thanks for the update, Oshpunit987!

I sold the watson a while back to another member. Ended up swapping out the 4:10 axles for a set of 3.07s and the grin cruising down the highway, towing up grades in 4th/direct, and at the pump never left my face. Less parasitic drag FTW.

Thanks again for the info, I think the story was that Watson was bought out by brown lipe, and brown lipe was bought out by Spicer, so you must have had a unit that was on the shelf throughout all of the acquisitions!
