00 f250 sd right front brake locking.
Hi all..
Great site btw!
Ok so about a month ago I was driving and felt the truck pull to right suddenly. I had to hold the steering to the left to keep the truck straight. I could smell the brakes on the right side. Lucky for me I was close to home. Jacked up the truck, pulled the wheel on the right side. It was missing one of the four metal pad slides. I got a kit from Napa and replaced them. Cleaned out the slide pins, lubed them, and tested the caliper to make sure it was sliding in and out. Put everything back on, and has been fine til today. It happened again.
Did some searching around and saw that some guys had luck with replacing the slide pins, or the hose, or the caliper.
Haven't pulled the tire because it's so hot. Lucky I was close to home again. I got home and smoke was coming out. 3 hours later and it's still hot.
When I lubed the pins, I used some wheel bearing grease I had. I'm wondering if that could of caused it. Anyone else have a similar problem?
Thanks all..

Jack up the wheel and verify that it's the brake that's dragging and not a bearing.
If it's clear the brake is dragging, open the bleeder and see if there is pressure in the lines. If there is, you could have a brake hose that's bad, a crushed line somewhere, or a bad ABS unit if you have 4-wheel ABS.
If there is no pressure in the lines, you have a mechanical issue. Use a large c-clamp and compress the pistons back into the caliper without removing it. Grab the caliper and slide it back and forth on the pins. It must move easily. If not, check the pins again and verify they slide in and out in the caliper with little resistance. You should only use silicone grease to lube the pins.
If the pins are OK, then one or both of the pistons are probably sticking. Just replace the caliper with a reman unit.
