Looking for a good engine shop

Hi Maryland,

I need to move forward with a 460 rebuild and need some recommendations on engine shops that will do me right. I won't be doing anything fancy. I probably just need someone to do a good looking over of the base components and a bore job if it's needed. I have other projects to tend to, so I might get the shop to do the reassembly too if the prices are right.

Anyone have someone they trust? I'm located on Kent Island and don't mind traveling a couple hours to get the right shop.

Thanks

Hey Dan,
Man I can't think of the last time I needed machine work done to an
engine well I can but it was about 30 years ago Sorry.

Hey what happened I thought you were gonna give us another story,
when I had a friend of mine pick my truck up with his trailer I found myself telling him
why you cross tie the vehicle on and what happens when you don't.

I talked to Bub. It sounds like they are a decent shop, but man...It's hard to get me to spend my cash. If I let them rebuild it, he said it could cost $3500+. That price does sound reasonable though. He suggested, since my truck is an infrequent driver and only used for things like hauling a camper and running trash to the dump, that I investigate going with a reman engine.

I use Doug's Welding 5100 pennington ave balto md21226. 410-355-6056. talk to steve. he's reasonably priced. I usually put my own motors back together, but he does that too. last set of heads he did for me was a 351 c 4v, cost me $160 hot tanked that block, bored .30, installed cam bearings, pressed off old pistons, pressed on new ones was $240 turn crank, and polish, matched bearings $150. turn flywheel $45. been a while since I've been up there, but I'm sure his prices are still reasonable

Somewhat of a drive (maybe 3 hours) but I know he does a great job. A buddy of mine from VA (Rob Bernhard) has built motors his whole life (primarily for Fords). He recently opened his own shop: www.1320speedandkustom.com. He and his dad are supposed to be racing at MIR for Pinks on June 19/20? If interested maybe you could arrange a meet...

I talked to Rob. He said he uses Mauzy Racing Engines out of Timberville, VA to do all his machine work. I called them and left a message.

Thanks Dave. We're getting there. I know this is going to hurt my wallet though -which wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't wanting to sell the truck sometime this year. Can't sell something that has a dog motor in it though.

I following this thread too since I pulled 460 out of a 1976 thunderbird years ago and have it all apart in my garage. I would like to build this engine for one of my '79 Ford trucks. I'm in DE and Baltimore is not that far of a ride for me. I would need it to be assembled too.
