There are lots of cheaper aftermarket hubs on Ebay and I have never heard any bad things about them. There are plenty to choose from.

If your hubs are shot why are you looking at bearings?

Whitebus; maybe you are confused. there are 2 hubs per wheel. One is normally called the wheel hub (with bearings) and the outer hub is the locking hub (ESOF).

Be careful. My esof quit working during the winter and I just had the vacuum solenoid and both the bearing hub and auto locker hubs replaced. Still doesn't work.

My 4wd quit working when the right front hub bearing failed causing the seal to leak. New bearing and seal all was back to normal. The only thing I know in the auto hub that can fail is the diaphram. I have never had one fail. I just service the hub every couple of years or so.

So I too caution swapping hubs w/o knowing the problem.

I just switched my hubs to the Warn locking hubs and I don't worry about it not working anymore. It's not a big deal to lock the hubs if I'm going into some nasty road conditions. I would rather lock my hubs and know they will work then to loose vacuum and be stuck. I know you can lock the hubs manually still, but mine had seized up and I couldn't turn the know anymore. It cost less then 200 to put Warn hubs on which is 1/3rd the cost of replacing the outer hubs from Ford.

i need to free up my dial because its locked. I went to do the guzzle thing and take out the auto lock part but i couldnt get it to come out. I need to look at it because the passenger side hub's engaged and the drivers side is making a pepper grinder kinda noise when im driving and goes away when i turn the **** to 4wd in the truck but comes back when i turn it to 2wd.

Jack the wheel up, drill a hole in the dial, squirt penetrating oil in it, turn the wheel, repeat, work the dial with pliers (careful), put a sheetmetal screw with sealer on it in the hole. You can do it off the truck too.

I considered doing exactly this then plugging the hole. I normally used silicon spray lubricant. would the penetrating oil damage the diaphram?

Silicon might even be better.
