Depending on your location, Rotella 15w-40 is about a good as oil as you can use.

I have used Rotella sense my truck was new. I now have 126,000 on it and still doing good. Our trucks hold 15 qts, but put 14 in with a filter change and start checking from there. Fill the filter with oil before you install it.

I agree with this. Now if the OP wanted to go with a synthetic oil, then things might be different. Buy he said he don't want synthetic.

What oil did they try to sell you? The important thing is to make sure it's a diesel engine oil with the proper rating. You do not need to (or want to) put any additives in the oil. You'll need to buy 4 gallons of oil. The truck holds 15 qts.

I've used Rotella, Delo, Mobil Delvac & Valvoline premium blue in my truck. All diesel rated 15w-40 oils. All of them have done well for me. The important thing is changing your oil at the proper interval.

Chris, you changed your oil when you came to my house, while we were changing my injectors. I didn't see what you were using. What did you put in your truck that time, and how many miles do you have now?

I remember that. You gave me that funnel with a 1/8" opening at the end and it took all day to dump the new oil in

That's when I was draining Delo 15w-40 out of the truck and forgot to take the oil sample for Blackstone at around 270k. I dumped Rotella in at your place and then did Delo again on the next oil change so I could send a sample to Blackstone. The frustrating part is we had talked about me collecting a sample during the change.

I'm coming up on 293,000 now.

My truck has 196,000 miles on it,I have put 6,000 miles on the last Rotella Synthetic oil,and you can still read the dipstick through the oil...you can go alot farther on synthetic oil to counter the higher cost, but I guess you have your reasons for not going with synthetic, just my .02 worth
Phil
EDIT:Oh yeah I forgot to mention,4 gallons puts mine right at the sweet spot.

Motorcraft = Ford. Can't go wrong. Pretty much what we all use.

Change that fuel filter while you're in there, since the truck is new to you and you may not be sure of the last time it was changed.
