F100 Kingpin assembly

Its been 20 years since I've messed with kingpins. Kit came with stainless shims. I'm assuming that 1 goes between axle and spindle boss on top side. Where do the other 3 go ? I cannot get them installed between any other wear surfaces. The shop manual does not show them and there werent any instructions with them. Thanks in advance.

I only used enough shims to get the spindle tight; check Midfifty's catalog they have a picture. I also put the felt on the top and the shims on the bottom of part of the axle.

Measure clearance between the top of axle boss to under side of upper arm of spindle. If gap isgreater than .015” add shim(s) as necessary to obtain proper clearance (.005" - .015").

Put the kingpin in the top of the spindle, then take 1 shim and place it over the kingpin on the bottom of the top of the spindle. Set it on the axle then take your bearing,(sealed side to the top) and place it under the axle and on top of the lower part of spindle. If the bearing goes in really easy then you need another shim, if it has to be forced then remove the first shim, you do not need it. Then fit the bearing in (make sure it isn't too loose) and tap your kingpin in the rest of the way but keep an eye on the kingpin groove for the locking pin. Good Luck
