You're a sick sick man. They should lock you up and throw away the key.....kidding. But really, I think you need to go stand in the corner for a while. We all dream of that $100 score, and then you pull that. OUCH. have you no shame? Still kidding, seeing if I can make you feel guilty yet or not.

It did seem too good to be true, but stranger things have happened. On that site you can get flamed bad for such behavior. Good luck in your quest. Stu

Talking

I got a line on a running original 50k miles 1951 F6 w/ Stakebody bed, with a clean a clear title for only $500. I want to buy it just to park out front of the house until I can get my 55 F-250 done, and then start on it. Bobj49F2 says that I should go for it despite the wife threatening to kill me, and Bob says that her desire to do so will pass shortly. Unfortunately, he doesn't know how shortly for sure.

Use this for an example. When I told my wife I wanted to spend the $1200 for the fire truck, her reaction was, the typical "Why do we need a fire truck?" My response.....it's an investment for the future. She balked at the idea of an old fire truck being a viable investment for the future. Here's the deal. That truck brought me to this very site. I have made friends here, that I would not of otherwise ever made. Ultimately, the truck was a $3000 investment, including the $1800 my father in law loaned me to get it shipped, after the FTE member relay drive fell through. It fell apart, because my mom died in a car accident, and I couldn't stomach the thought of something bad happening to anyone on this board. My father in law died a year later, before I was able to finish paying him back. I got half of it paid back. I sold the truck for $3500. Ten months later, the guy e-mailed me (mind you, he already paid the $3500) informing me he lost his shop, and was writing off the truck through his company. His words "keep the truck, don't worry about the money, it's already written off." So, $1300 more came from selling parts off the truck. I got to keep the best part, the perfect rust and damage free Ford F-750 body. So, $500 is a small investment for the future. If it runs, it's alrady worth more than $1500. Approach it that way, and you may have better luck. My wife no longer turns up her nose when it comes to me wanting a truck, or parts of a truck, because I already proved to her that I was good at what I do.

Thanks a lot for that response, Navi. To introduce myself, I like Ford trucks and currently have two: a 1996 Bronco and a 1979 F-250. I want to add a 1948-1950 flatbed/stakebed F4-6 to go with some Christmas trees and fruit trees I plan to plant. I live on the east coast but wouldn't mind having a truck shipped to me. I am inclined to buy one that is totally stock and have it restored. Is that a good idea in your and others view or will I ge a better deal (and less headaches) these days buying one that someone else has already redone? Thank you very much.

Ditto what Joe said, I have made some good friends here that I hope to meet someday. and I have been able to buy what I need and sell other parts to help offset the cost of my affliction/addiction to these old trucks.

btw
I just got off the phone with the 40 COE owner and he also owns the 48 bonus built Fire truck and he seemed very open to selling them... I am hopefully going to go look at them this Saturday. I'll be sure to take more pictures and also get some of the firetruck. wish me luck,
Oh I hope they are reasonable- now Im getting my hopes up on the COE....

ok, back in the corner I go.

Edit; NDP I guess it depends on what you find and the condition and price, etc etc. if you find one in good original shape and you want restore it I say go for it. sometimes you can find deals on a truck that someone has started and it may be in pieces. when I got my 51 I paid $500 for it and I have had to replace almost all of the sheet metal, and the cab needed new front corners/mounts, and patch panels on all four corners, had 2 holes in the back cab corners about half way up, etc etc. the entire bed was scrap, all four fenders were totally gone. I probably could have found two complete decent parts trucks for what I have spent on fixing the cab, but; it was a learning experience. lol Basically I purchased an idea of a truck, with a good frame and title.

Short bus

Denver Slim,

Do you still have the short bus? What year is it? Would you consider selling it?
