Tach ID help Part Number: E0TF-17360-Y

I found this in an early 80's F600 today, and I was wondering if it would work on my I6?

It does not look like a diesel tach, but more like from a straight six. The engine and transmission were already gone from the truck, but there was a Duraspark module on the inner fender so I'm assuming it's from a gas motor. I'm having a hard time trying to visualize an I6 in such a large truck but you never know.

I have never seen one that only went up to 4000 RPM and thought this would be ideal for my Rat Rod truck with the I6.

If anyone can decode the part number for me, I would appreciate it.

Also, there are 4 studs on the back labeled:

C G
8 B

I am assuming that:

C= negative side of coil
G= ground
8= grounded IF it's a V-8
B= battery positive

I've seen this posted before, but I just want a clarification please before I try and hook it up.

I would just hook up "C" "B" "G" with some jumper wires and compare the reading with another tach, that is what I did with the spare I have.

The Max 4000 rpm is kinda different... but if it works ...

Yeah, I figured I'd hot wire it and see what it reads.

I like the fact that it only goes to 4000 rpm. Most I6's never see more than 3500 so it'll keep the reading right in the middle of it's range most of the time.

I've just never seen one before.

I think the 6.9 has a 3300 rpm limit in the injector pump , so it might be from that.
what is red line on a 300 inline 6?

The truck had a Duraspark module on the inner fender so I doubt it had a diesel in it.

That's what baffles me. I can't imagine an I6 in such a large (F600 ish) truck.

I used to work on a 600 that had a FT motor in it, but then, the cab looked like it belonged int he 60's.... It likely had a gas medium duty motor in it, which don't tend to revv like the light truck motors. Actually, many of them were governed by the distributor to make sure they didn't over revv.

back in the 60's and 70's that and a t18 were the base in a f600.

Well Stosh, you have found something UNUSUAL for sure. I have seen so many models of this generation of truck, but I have NEVER seen a factory tach that looked like that! I would be curious to know what that came from as well.

Maybe NumberDummy can help.

My 86 F150 302 had that one from the factory...

I removed it years ago because it started going crazy, and replaced it with the normal 6000 rpm unit. I don't recall the part number that was on it, but I thought it was pretty wierd. I manually shift the AOD at around 4500 if I'm under full throttle for max performance, so that old tach had to go anyway.
If I leave it in drive, it shifts at 4000, so I guess for most people, that tach would have been fine.

It is not stock for a 302. That much I can tell you. Especially in an F600.

After looking at thousands of trucks, this is the first one I have ever seen. Maybe Bill will chime in with some words of wisdom.

I'm not looking for guesses here. I can do that on my own.........

The 300-I6-HD (heavy Duty) was available in the F-600. Not sure on production dates though.

1968 F-600 300-I6-HD

As for the following...

C= negative side of coil
G= ground
8= grounded IF it's a V-8
B= battery positive

The above is correct.

As for this tach being avaliable in the pickups, my book has no record of it. I do believe, if I'm not mistaken, numberdummy has the Medium duty book, or access to it.

I cannot find a Ford part number for Ford ID number EOTF-17360-Y.

I looked in both the 1980/89 Light & Heavy Truck Parts Catalogs-EOTF-17360-Y is not listed (No Medium truck parts catalog until 1990).

Ford updates part numbers, and after a year, they remove the old part number AND its ID number from the catalog.

There are two different 4000 RPM tachs listed for 1980/81 F600's, but I'm not going to guess which one this is.

However, I can tell you this:

It's not for a 1980/86 F100/350 gas or diesel as the gasser uses a 6,000 RPM tach, the diesel (6.9L) use a 4500 RPM tach.

I'm gonna call someone to see if he has the ID cross reference...get back to you as soon as I find out.

Stosh, did you get the printed circuit along with the tach?

EDIT: I just had a phone conversation with a Ford parts manager pal of mine

The Ford computer system has no listing for EOTF-17360-Y.

Are you sure it's a Y suffix?

We both found myriad EOTF-17360- but none have a Y suffix.

Well, the Y is actually on a second line underneath the casting number.

There is a -BA in black marker possibly added to the end of the part number. I just assumed it was marking one of the posts.

There is also a part number on the front black bezel of the tach which reads:

EOTF-17B316-B

I did not take the circuit film, but I did remove it from the cluster and stashed it in the truck in case I need it. F600 and up usually have different indicator lights than light duty and I figured it would not work anyway.

I am assuming any I6 light series circuit film with tach will work. If not, plans were to hard wire it.

The BA can be seen in the picture of the back, and the cast Y and black E199 is on a second line as shown.

Thanks for your help Bill.

Correction to my post above, mine was a 4500 tach, not a 4000. Totally different. NumberDummy, when you mentioned a 4500 tach, it jarred in my head that my original one was at 4500. Sorry for the confusion.
