Here's a link to some scope work I did on the tach signal as well as some filter work I did - with no success. Anyway, hope you get it working. Please post your results.

After a little more digging I confirmed that Ford only used one tach for both V8 and I6 gas engines. The difference in 3 pulse vs 4 pulse input is managed by using two grounded wires in the V8 application and one grounded wire for the I6. So the 4,000 rpm tach should work fine for the I6 as long as it is wired in correctly or used with the proper I6 printed circuit ribbon. This would be massively easier than trying to adapt a diesel tach to work with a Hall effect signal, provided 4,000 rpm range was sufficient instead of 4,500. Anyone trying to do this may find the following thread (and links within the first post) helpful.

6k tach with part number “EOTF-17360-AA”(directly below is “Y H243

The front side of 6k tach.

The back side of 6k tach with: C 8 G B

There is a -BA in black marker possibly added to the end of the part number. I just assumed it was marking one of the posts.

There is also a part number on the front black bezel of the tach which reads:

EOTF-17B316-B

I did not take the circuit film, but I did remove it from the cluster and stashed it in the truck in case I need it. F600 and up usually have different indicator lights than light duty and I figured it would not work anyway.

I am assuming any I6 light series circuit film with tach will work. If not, plans were to hard wire it.

The BA can be seen in the picture of the back, and the cast Y and black E199 is on a second line as shown.

Thanks for your help Bill.
