Airbox Experiment/Question on the 07+ Expy
Wonder how many guys have seen this?
2009 F-150 Dyno Runs
Bill at PHP did some dyno testing on a 2009 F-150 in the beginning of the year. The numbers are pretty impressive, especially if you are familiar with the prior generation (04-08) HP/TQ curves.
I think so, but I'd like to see what others have to think about this.

Why is this relevant you ask?
So, if Bill can gain ~7 HP/TQ by removing the snorkel section of the airbox...would that work on the Expy as well?Because as far as I can tell, the 07-09 Expy were a F-150 testbed, and have the exact same drivetrain (motor + trans) as the 09+ F-150.
Only major difference being the PCM tuning.

07+ Expy has 300 HP
09+ F-150 has 310 HP

By snorkel section are you referring to the air silencer that's attached to the airbox itself or the piping from the box to the T-Body?
First thing I did when I had a weekend was to yank out that foolish silencer. Only takes about 20 minutes. As far as power goes, it's nothing you'de ever feel SOTP but it sounds better from 30% throttle on up.

In either case, I would yank that thing at the first opportunitty regardless. You'll never feel less than 20 or so HP SOTP anyways but like I mentioned in my earliar post, the sound gain from removing the silencer is more than worth the 20 minutes it'll take you to get rid of it. You don't need a special tool to remove the silencer. A few basic wrenches and a couplea screwdrivers will have it out in under 30 minutes. A dyno *might* show some gains from removing it but the sound difference is really the pat-on-the-back. Anything over 20-30% throttle will deliver a nicer sounding "gddyup" for your troubles. We all know it's not *always* about the power. It has to sound good to you too.....
I'm all stock right now, minus the air silencer. I still have the factory air filter in place! My next step is going to be an X3 from 5-Star and then a Magnaflow, but for now, just that simple mod makes me smile.
