Which engine would you choose for a 2,000 lb play car?

You will drive this car on the street. You want some performmance, both in the acceleration department and in the handling department.

Vote now.

Some of the Cobra replica cars are built around the mustang 5.0HO and many of it's other powertrain and chassis parts.. and for good reason, it delivers outstanding power to weight ratio in stock form, and radical performance when stroked and/or supercharged.

It's taken 40+ laps around the sun, lots of reading, and lots more wrenching, and I'm still learning.

late model 5 liter block. it is light wieght in comparrison to the others, the aftermarket has it covered from every angle. I would stroke it out to 347 add a good set of heads and big fat roller cam and let it eat. I have one in a 86 stang making 640hp and 680tq to the tires very fun to drive. The possibilities are endless but thats my vote

Call me silly, but I'd keep it small and simple and go with a 289. I've seen what one well-built 289 can do in a '67 2+2 hardtop Mustang, and it even blew doors off several 5.0 GTs and IROCs back in the day.

Beechkid is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
The 289/302 is the best choice IMHO for both power & handling- the lightest engine & you can produce hp to match almost any big block.

small block

there's nothing you can't do with a small block nowadays. 289/302's will give you plenty of clearence and as stated earlier they can be stoked out to 360 and nowbody knows.

A while ago I saw a U-tube video with a Jeep CJ jumping dunes with a 6.0 under the hood. Maybe I'm a bit biased , but I thought that was pretty cool.
