Snap Ring Kit and Thrust Bearing Kit for E4OD, any such animal?

Forgive me this is my first E4OD rebuild, Is it common practice to re-assemble with existing snap rings and thrust bearings? I don't see any kits that include them except for the OD updated lock ring and the thrust bearing for the steel forward planet upgrade. Do you have to purchase each separate?

I only replace thrust bearings when they are bad or are known to fail, and I always reuse the snap rings during a rebuild and only replace them if the are broken or a better design like that spiral ring for the overdrive section.

I like the small transgo shift kit for that trans, it has the spiral ring and some other goodies to install during the rebuild, really makes them work well.

Hey, thanks for the input. I bought a Sonnax kit...but it looks like that TransGo kit is less expensive and cures the same ills. What about internal bushings? Do you change them out if they look okay and still have some oil groove left? My kit came with just the tail housing bushing and a pump bushing.

Always installing new bushings on a high milage unit is a good idea.when you have worn bushings you can loose vital lube and applt pressure.

Thanks for the help and taking time to answer my questions. I finished the rebuild and she runs much better, the 1-2 shift is a little harsh compared to stock. But no more bang crash going into reverse, shuddering, fluid leakage and occasional burnt fluid smell. I am elated and proud of myself for getting it done the first try (my first Automatic rebuild)...the elation is tempered by cost. Total parts cost including tax ended up at $2333.93 including a cooler and remote filter. I had been having ongoing trans problems but actually lifted the van because the fuel pump went ($300). So $2600 on a $3K van .

Yeah...I threw some parts at it though. The solenoid pack was $215, double clutch converter w/ "billet" front was $350 on clearance, $225 for a Mag Hytec pan on ebay, the aluminum forward planet was galled and severely damaged I just replaced all the gear sets with new steel updates. One of the sun gears was not available aftermarket and I had to go to the dealer $155. New "F8..." pump was a couple hundred on ebay. I think that was most of the high dollar stuff, the rest was all nickel and dime $50 here $20 there. I used a good quality rubber hose and push-on fittings on the cooler set up but it still cost me a bunch all added up...I should have just went Earl's braided stainless. And yes...I of course found the thrust bearing and snap ring kits LOL.

Oh...and with the mag hytec, the remote filters, and the cooler it was $150 in fluid alone!
