quad tail/brake lights - pics/vid

i plan on adding LED tails later on, but with the $300+ price tag i decided to do somthing with the taillights to hold me over and get alittle more light back there.

i never understood why they took the E series taillights and didnt use the seperate turnsignal. but since they did they left a blank spot in the taillight.

i took a turnsignal plug/wiring from a parts explorer in my yard and wired it in to my excursion. i then cut the taillight to accept the light plug. once a bulb was added and the wiring tied up she was finished.

i now have 4 brake lights/turn signals in the rear(excluding the 3rd brake light) the extra saftey and incase a bulb burns out i still have one working i thought was worth the 20mins this mod took me.

the new plug added

in the taillight

left side done, taillights on

both done, tailights on

vid with the flashers/tailights on

Hmm, this just might be something I do to the Excursion someday.

Nice job, rep points given.

Be sure to keep us updated when you put in the LEDs.

Looks good.

I did something similar years ago. Used 1994 Econoline tail lights with amber turn signals. Pics in my gallery.

I don't think he has the brake pressed that's probably why there is no third brake light. I do wish the third light was a running light also.

yeah, the third brake light is only on when the brakes are hit. i had the 4way flashers on and in the pictures only the PARKING lights were on.

i also plan on doing the 3rd brake light in LEDs and also hooking the outer lights to the turnsignals..all in due time when i can get around to soldering the boards together.

thanks guys, it was just a quick little mod i thought i'd share incase anyone else wonderd how it would work out..ect

Digging this up because I was thinking about it...

Not sure I know anybody who has done this mod (quad taillights) so maybe it should be named after AlaskanEx.

I have the amber turn signals but have yet to hook them up.

I was thinking about this thread and think I'll put the all red ones back on but use the top for brake lights. I'm going to tie them into the CHMSL (third light). That way I'll still have a brake light lit even when the turn signal is on.

Anybody done that? I want to call a mod my own. "monsta Mod!"

Monsta....when I did my amber conversion, I did tap the CHMSL for the brake feed. It's the easiest to get to ..then route down.

That's what I did. The tops are Turn/brake (cut off tail wire) and the middle are tail/brake.

For the record, the bottoms are backup lights...
