Thumbs down Gear Selector stuck in Park

Okay I did a search and did not find anything Helpful. My wife's 05 Navigator is stuck in Park and will not come out. If you really play with it it will eventually move through the gears. Has anyone had this problem. I think it may have something to do with the sensor for the brake, does anyone know if it is adjustable? The instrument lights at the gear selector is also not coming on.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Its an 05 4wd Navigator.

Turn the key on but don't start the engine. Press the brake pedal, see if you can then shift it into neutral, and then try to start it from there. If that works, the problem is with the brake interlock circuit, blown fuse, bad switch, etc. If that doesn't help, then you're looking at a mechanical issue with the shifter.

Let us know the results.

Shift interlock bypass instructions are in your owner's manual.

The brake on/off (BOO) switch is a common cause in your era's model for this problem. Get it going on the highway, set the cruise, they tap the brake pedal. If the cruise does NOT disengage, then the switch is definitely bad.

The brake lights are on a different circuit within the BOO switch and are not affected by the other half's failure.

Thanks

Thanks for the input guys. It was not a blown fuse but one must have come loose? I pulled the fuses listed as and none were blown. I just pushed them all in with my finger and it solved the problem Is this common, the Navigator is new to us and I have a feeling I will need to get a little more familiar with it. I did find one of the larger fuses was damaged but still functioning.

I will post pics I have a feeling the dealer must have know because the plastic cover was off the fuse but nowhere to be found in the fuse panel cover. I will have a chat with them tomorrow.
Thanks again.

I've seen fuses lose connection like that before due to oxidation. It usually happens over long periods of time, but I've never seen it happen within 4 years.

I thought it was odd also, There was no oxidation on any of the fuses I checked but the floor/carpet seemed damp in that area.
