AODE to Manual...Any advice appreciated.

1995 F-150 4x4 Reg. Cab, Short Bed
AODE automatic,OD Off light flashes constantly, even with the 4 rebuilds...

The AODE is nothing but trouble. Even with my driving habits, which come very close to that of a 70 year old woman who does 25 in a 65, and accelerates slower than turtles mate, and only using 4x4 when hunting and in snow, It keeps burning up. I've had it rebuilt 4 times in the past 2 years, and it keeps crapping itself. I just got my 4 wheel drive fixed yesterday,(after 5 years without a right front lockout) and took it down a muddy road to make sure it was locking in...about a half mile down the road, the tranny locked into third gear and wont shift...I drove it 15 miles home, pulled the tranny pan, and about a gallon of cold water came out with the ATF, along with a very strong burning smell. I would understand this problem if I had driven through a lake, pond, Etc... But the amout of mud I threw BARELY coated my wheelwells, and I didn't even come close to any water. I've heard alot of horror stories about the AODE, and every one of them has proven true with mine. I'm thinking about going with the Mazda 5 spd, or the ZF...I know, I know...Quite a bit of work, but I'm hoping to end my tranny probs. My total repar bill over the past 2 years has been well over 4 thousand with rebuilds (half of that came from a horrible tranny mech. at KENTCO TRANSMISSION in INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI, that screwed me over big time.) To my question..What extra stuff do I need to convert it? I know I'll need a different flywheel, a shifter, clutch, clutch pedal, stuff like that...Anyone that has done this, or knows some of the parts I need, please gimme a holler...

AODE to Manual...Any advice appreciated.

I would go with the ZF personally for your swap. First find an old truck with the clucth linkage and put threw the firewall. You can do this will still driving it. When you get ready to do the big exchange you will have to have both driveshaft either cut or extended to fit. Then after bolted up you will have to chip or program computer to know its a manual. Not hard but will be time consuming and a pain in the A**.
