Another 400 stroker

2V CHI heads, Weiand intake manifold, Comp Cams hyd. roller cam. Same cam as we used in the Pantera engine.
We should have some dyno numbers very soon.

The carb is a Speed Demon 750. This is close to your twin Craig.

Hmmmmmmmmmm....that engine looks familiar. Where have I seen it before? Wait...I know!

It's mine!

I was wondering when Tim was going to get frustrated with me not posting pictures of it on here yet. He beat me to the punch. Gotta say, though, it's gonna look pretty snazzy in Buford.

I'm antsy about the numbers too!

Oops sorry Tim, I didn't mean to steal your thunder. I didn't even think about weather you posted your pictures here, probably I didn't know you were on here (or forgot probably) I have always said, I have a good memory, just short. Yes this is the heart of Buford!! I cruised through your pictures of Buford and the engine is going to look right at home there. That really is a beautiful truck. Just like the truck, Tim has picked some nice detail items for the engine. When I get a chance, I will get some pics of the bolts and other fine details.

Nah, we're good. I was figuring on posting the photos at some point, but probably after I had received it and set it in the frame. I'll still do that, but may post the pictures you sent to me in my album beforehand.

So, if my theory is correct, the only thing we're waiting on before dyno is the fuel log to come in from your distributor so we can connect the fuel lines? I'm thinkin we should just about have everything else. Unless, of course, you have to use the valve cover bolts to hold on the wireloom, and then perhaps you're waiting for that so you can tighten them down for the last time.

Anyway, don't sweat stealin my thunder...I'm sure the engine will make enough of its own to keep me happy.

Smile 400 Stroker vs non-Stroked 400

Guys,

What kind of torque and hp. increases would you expect with the stroked 400 vs non? Still trying to decide which way I would like to go with my 1979 400 F150 swb 4x4.

Scott

Tim will find out quicker than me, but when I initially ran a desktop dyno scenario on this set-up it put out almost 600 ft lbs of flat torque (very little curve is noticed with this stroked version) and in the 500's on HP. I don't know how accurate desktop dyno is, but we will see soon! The 2V heads are critical in building torque for this motor, in my opinion.

AWESOME! That sounds like the perfect combination for my 1979 F150
with 3.50 gears. Do you guys think that is too much torque for the Dana 44?

Yeah, it probably is a bit too much torque for the 44, but I've got plans in the back of my noggin to upgrade to a HP D60 at some point so I won't have to sweat it as much. The 44 can handle quite a bit, but with 35" tires, and that kind of torque, I think I'd be asking for trouble if I ever really goosed it. Luckily, I don't plan on taxing it that much, but I'll still probably upgrade eventually.

I'll be actively looking for your dyno #'s. Do you know when you will have them? Probably from a cost standpoint, building a stroker vs non is probably not that much more expensive?

it'd help if you have it better gearing somewhere in the fours, if you really want to keep the d44
