local report: Geese are migrating over Memphis Tennessee

I have observed two flights overhead in the past week. The geese are coming north again, local position fix 20 miles north of memphis TN.

(Whatever that may mean to anyone)

They are definitely Canadian geese by the black gray and white markings.

So much for public service info regarding migratory patterns.

Are they good on the grill?

You can make great jerkey from them and they also can be deep fat fried. I recommend injecting them and having it sit for a week in the frig. Put your rub on and dunk them in the vat.

I thought they had changed their name to "Mississippi" geese ...

Dam' things pretty much stay all year doin' eggzackaly as above , lawns, yards & every where there is grass and water. Please take 'em back.

I hear they're like eating cold turkey injected with a can of funny tasting Criso.

Can't make turkey jerky - not enough fat!

It's like gnawin' on a slab of compressed sawdust.

(?)

On the other hand - has anyone done smoked gator tail before?

(Get a load of this now - I'm hi-jacking my own thread... Well yippee kye aye!)

If they come here we will deport them as per this article.

How many do you want? Come & get 'em. Maybe Canada will give the U.S. stimulus money to ship 'em all back. Those nasty "Flying Fertilizer Factories" leave a mess wherever they go. Can't do anything to 'em because they are federally protected. The other day, one of them couldn't get out of the way fast enough and was killed by a school bus. HOORAY FOR THE BUS!

I've heard SAC bases that experienced a lot of problems with geese on and around the runway have declared Geese a foreign anti-air system designated "B1-RD"

We don't like these geese anymore than our American neighbours. I don't know how they ever got the 'Canada' on their name...but why couldn't it of been appended to a nice animal....like a Bluebird or something ??

Yep, Canada got the shaft on the geese. Maybe, they were just found in Canada when they were named. Then they got smart and found it is warmer south of the border. Instead of being protected, they need to have a bounty on their arrogant head. Cracks me up......the ad at the bottom of this page said "Goose problems? Control Canandian". Yeah buddy...GOOD LUCK!! The best way of control is to lop off their head!

It don't say anywhere you can't catch them, clip their wings, and have the eggs....

That's conservation, isn't it? It conserves my grocery money....

over here in south east virginia the geese have also token up residents, our winters have been relatively warm and they are becoming more of a nuisance then the penguin. Everybody hates them, golf courses, airports, heck 10 years ago the model Fabio was on a rollorcoaster and got hit in the face by one. One city in the area rounded up all the geese in a public park and reloacted them to some safehaven in another state, lol . Who know resident geese would be a side effect of global warming
