2001 f150 electrical help

2001 f150 5.4 ran it monday no issues, it sat tuesday, went out this am to head to work won't start. I tried jumping it no luck. when i roll the starter over everything in the cab goes out all the idiot lights interior lights go out so out of curiosity i turned the headlights on and rolled it over and they stay on and don't even seem to dim, it is the same results with the jumpers on it? I can here a single click. this kind of threw me for a loop as i was thinking battery but that wouldn't make sense if the head lights stay on would it?. I did check the wires going to the starter they seem to be intact and tight. and then the rain came so i figured i'd ask for suggestions so if anyone has any of those it would be greatly appreciated.

Check the grounds! Had a similar problem on my 97. The Ground from the battery cable, accessory wire was corroded well into the insulation. Cut out the corroded section, and everything started working as expected.
