Jack Stand height and location

I'm getting ready to do my lift/shocks and tires. I would like to find out what the required jack stand "height" is needed to place under the frame in order to drop the front axle enough. I have two high lift hydraulic floor jacks to raise and lower each side of the front axle as needed. The jack "stands" i have will only go to a maximum of 17". This initially seems a little short but not sure. I will also be doing the rear as well. I know i could prop the stands up on some wood bases but seeing as their cheap enough i would rather be a little more safer getting bigger stands.

Also what is the preferred jack stand locations that you guys have used for both front and rear?

2.5" front leveling and 350 rear blocks.

THANKS
Dave

I just use one of those 1" ratchet straps to make a band around the shock. Just adjust the strap so the shock is compressed to the proper height and you can get the shocks in without the hassle of jacking the frame and dropping the axle.

Well,
I have to drop the axle enough to remove the springs and get my leveling kit spacers in.

Well when I did my 6" lift I went out and got some 12ton stands only like $80 at harbor freight...they have a max height of 30". And well worth it for the piece of mind when under an SD! There is a nice flat spot in front of the trans crossmember for the front and the rear I used the hitch.

Yea I had some 6ton stands from harbor frieght but they only went to 24" and my tires barely came off the ground. I did end up using them to support the axle when I lowered it. I also picked up a nice floor jack from them too.

Those are exactly what I have. Those are some big jack stands when you are used to working with Mustangs. The little 3 ton stands almost look like toys.
