Jack Stand height and location

Jack Stand height and location
I'm getting ready to do my lift/shocks and tires. I would like to find out what the required jack stand "height" is needed to place under the frame in order to drop the front axle enough. I have two high lift hydraulic floor jacks to raise and lower each side of the front axle as needed. The jack "stands" i have will only go to a maximum of 17". This initially seems a little short but not sure. I will also be doing the rear as well. I know i could prop the stands up on some wood bases but seeing as their cheap enough i would rather be a little more safer getting bigger stands.
Also what is the preferred jack stand locations that you guys have used for both front and rear?
2.5" front leveling and 350 rear blocks.
THANKS
Dave

Well when I did my 6" lift I went out and got some 12ton stands only like $80 at harbor freight...they have a max height of 30". And well worth it for the piece of mind when under an SD! There is a nice flat spot in front of the trans crossmember for the front and the rear I used the hitch.

Those are exactly what I have. Those are some big jack stands when you are used to working with Mustangs. The little 3 ton stands almost look like toys.
