Use 5.0/E4OD MAF EEC-IV to run 5.8/E4OD?

Are there any issues in using a 5/0L/E4OD MAF computer to run a 5.8L/E4OD other than the firing order? Any timing issues? I know the 5.0 uses a knock sensor that the 5.8 doesn't use. Would there be any problems in that respect? Would lack of a signal from this sensor to the ECU cause any problems?

Would the 5.8 dist. be ok with the 5.0 computer? I guess I'm asking if the 5.0 computer tries to adjust the timing for each cylinder individually through the dist., which I can see would cause problems due to the different firing orders. Or is any timing adjustment generic to all cylinders?

Barring any timing issues, this does look doable as long as I make sure I get the right injectors hooked up to the correct ECU pins and adding a MAF sensor. I've looked this up on FordFuelInjection it doesn't look that difficult.

They do reccomend using the F5Tf-BYA ECU from the '95 Bronco's but I haven't been able to locate one. A search on CarParts turns up zero hits and the reman guys only want to recondition your existing unit, which I do not have, this being a conversion from an SD system. There are some of the 5.0 units around, the -GB and -HB units but they seem to be getting scarce also.

The 5.8 engine build is very mild, stock heads, RV cam, headers and dual exhaust, and a cold air intake. The 5.0 computer should be able to adapt to that, shouldn't it?

As always, any help will be appreciated,

Rob

go to Ford Fuel Injection for most if not all of these questions.

from what i have heard you should be fine. the maf 5.0 broncos/f150's shared the same firing order as the 5.8 so no worries there. are you swapping a 5.8 inplace of your current 5.0 or are you getting the entire wiring harness, injector harness maf harness to convert your current 5.8 setup to mass air?

I see I need to adjust my sig. It has been some time since I've been able to get back to my projects, and there's been a change or two in plans.

Yes, this is a conversion on an 5.0L SD truck.

I know that the HO 5.0's have the same firing order as the 5.8. I wasn't aware that the trucks had it also, although it makes sense, I guess, if they run MAF like the Mustangs.

A look at my Haynes manual is not very clarifying. It says that 'later model' 5.0's had the 13726548 order, as do all HO's. Whatever they mean by 'later'. Other 5.0's are shown with the 15426378. One source I have includes trucks in that category.

I don't suppose it really matters. Being an SEFI computer, I guess I can run my injector control wires to whatever injectors I choose. In this case it would be from the computer pin that runs the #5 injector to the actual #3 injector, the computer pin that runs the #4 injector to the actual #7, and so on. Only four would need to be changed, as the 1,2,6,8 cylinders are the same. Easy enough to do since I will be adding the individual control wires myself.

I mainly had concerns about the knock sensor and any effects not having one might have on the timing.

Thanks for your reply, though,

Rob
