Power Point on Dash 05 F-150
Somebody help me before I take all the skin off my knuckles! I'm trying to tap the hot wire on the back of the aux power plug on the dash of my 05 SCrew. I can feel the wires, feel the plug, but cannot squeeze my big head through the glove box opening to see how to twist, prise, etc, to get it off! I've even shoved the digital camera up in there to see if a pic would help me get it loose, but I get nothing but a beautiful view of the steel dash support and infinite blackness! I can easily reach the plug and the wires, but not enough to tap them, I don't think. I'd really like to unplug it, tap the wires and plug it back up. Does the power point come out from the front??? HELP!
Thanks in advance!

If you just need power, there may be two simpler choices.
First, if you don't have a 4WD, the change holder to the left of the radio twists off easily. Put a rag around the lower rim (sticks out) to avoid marring it, use large Channellock pliers and twist clockwise. You will find the wiring for the 4WD switch there. One of the wires provides 12V with the key on. The wire gauge may not be large enough for your needs, but it's easy to look at it.
Second, pull off the passenger side kick plate and the fuse box should be visible. Use your owners manual diagram to locate a fuse position and take it from there.
As for the passenger side plug, if it's like the center lighter plug, it pops in but does not pop out without pliers engaging a couple of retaining clips. If you are intent on using that wire, have you tried pulling out the radio? There are a couple of posts on how to pull out the center trim panel, search for ChrisAdams posts for the first one I saw.
Best of luck,

below the stereo and the radio, see that oval shaped black section of plastic. has T/C (if equipped), Backup Sensors (if equipped) and the cigarette lighter.
just pull it off. it just has 4 compression snaps. then you can either reach through there to tap off the 12v accessory to it's right, or just tap off the cigarette lighter/accessory in that panel itself

Thanks folks! I just got finished with that little project. Thanks especially for the heads up on the lower lighter/power point tap. I popped that little panel out and tapped the hot wire there. Then I ran hot & Ground across the dash, up the A pillar and under the edge of the headliner to the rear view mirror. The wires are very easy to hide along this route and I didn't have to unscrew or unbolt anything to get them there! Just to the left of center, behind the rear view mirror I installed an auxiliary power point--about $4.99 at wallyworld--I used 3M molding tape and cleaned the glass really well with alcohol before sticking the tape on. Then I plugged in my GPS, wound up the extra gps power cord, tied it off behind the mirror and attached the gps to the windshield. Now, my dash is free of dangling wires, the gps is always plugged up and I have the original 2 outlets available again! I prefer my gps mounted close to the rear view mirror. I guess if I wanted it dash mounted, I'd come up through the holes in the cubby on top of the dash.

LOL, yeah, I'm not too adept with the pic thing. I can't even figure out how to reduce any of my current pics to change my avatar! 100x100 is pretty small, but I can't seem to find the option on photobucket that I've used before.....eventually, there will be pics....
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
