6.4L Power Stroke Diesel Engine fitted to 2008 - 2010 F250, F350 and F450 pickup trucks and F350 + Cab Chassis

Be honest. What kind of MPG can I expect if I buy a new F350?

That's odd. Should only have had 2-3. Are you sure the truck has been allowed to complete it's regens (ie. 20 miles on the highway) and it's not just the same one over and over?

Seems most 08's regen about every 200 miles (more or less). I get 12-13 in town, and 17-18 HWY. I usually do about 70% HWY, 30% city. I average about 15.5. All ##s are empty and hand figured. Lie-o-meter is usually optomistic by about 1-1.5 MPG.

Dang Lie-o-Meter!

I'll add another vote to the lie-o-meter! Mine can be just as stated by R-TO. It REALLY gets confused if you switch trailers or unhook from one. The "miles to E" calculation can read zero and I'll still have 1/4 tank of fuel. Seems to me that it would adjust a lot faster when the load is gone. It's not advertised as an average like the MPG meter is.

I drove from Pensacola, FL to Memphis today and averaged 7.9 with an empty 11,000 lb. fifth wheel cargo trailer (36', triple axle). That's about as low as I have ever seen but if you consider the terrain I can buy it. It was pretty much uphill most of the way and there are some decent hills through Mississippi. Lie-o-meter says 9.2!

I have a 2008 Job 3 CC, LB 4X4. Almost all of my driving is in town and I get right around 12 mpg. I just turned 10k miles and the only problem I had was replacement of the DPF filter at 2500 miles. My last truck was a 2005 model with the 6.0 optioned almost identical to the 2008 I have now. That truck got right around 13.5 mpg. Both trucks were duallys and 4.10 gear.

ThatMe how fast were you driving? I have basically the same truck but if I drive over 60 I only get 12-13 mpg. If I keep it to 55 mph I can eek out 15.5. Will be towing a 11k 5er this weekend and will write back then. I have 3500 miles on mine currently. Love the truck so far except for the mpg's. I use to own an 05 F250 CC 4x4 short bed w/3:73 and got 18-19 if i kept it below 65mph. Got 9-11 pulling 5er.

These are big trucks. MPG is not what they do. Our F-350 set up for towing a 13K plus 5th wheel weighs in at 9314lbs. It has the 4:10 diff. We have used centene booster since day one. Solo around town 12/13 mpg (that is my town, maybe not yours) Interstate solo 15/18 depending on conditions. and speed(62/65) Towing 9/11 again depending on conditions. We have seen as low as 7mpg and as high as 13.5mpg. We can count on 10/11 at the end of most any day. The truck just turned 20K miles. These are also not sports cars.. If they are driven like one you will pay the price.

sdrono, I was running 62/65 MPH. I also tow a 5er 10k, I usually get 10 to 12 MPG . I have just over 11k miles on the truck. I do try to use octane boost every other tank, seems to work out ok. Honestly, My MPG's have been really good from the start.

Boy these mileage numbers are encouraging. Lot better then then the first models that came out. The Superduties are a heavy truck. Built like a tank. Looks like a new superduty is in my future. If theres a better HD truck out there then this one I have yet to see it. These mileage numbers I can live with.

i have always been a ford diehard. if you can live with the crappy mpg and awful lag from a stop, then buy one. i personally liked the 6.0 better.

First of all let me say that the way you drive these trucks will determine your mileage. If you are going to get in the driver's seat, do jack rabbit starts and run 80mph down the highway then you will get crappy mileage. These trucks are not meant to cruise around in. They are not grocery getters. They are work trucks.

For example, if I tow 16K down the highway at 75 mph then I get 7 to 8mpg. However, with the same load at 62mph I get 10mpg.

Empty(except my fat *** and hundreds of pounds of tools in it) I get 14 with speeds up to 63 or so but if I drive the way I want to I get 11.

As far as handling, power and comfort you cannot beat these trucks.

You think mileage is bad now??? Wait till Obama get's his way with the EPA by his side. He is about to determine what vehicles AMERICANS will be able to drive in HIS country.

Maybe we can all drive Smart cars by 2016. You think those things can be made to accept a gooseneck hitch and tow 16K?

caycebugs,

I love my 6.0's as well. However, the 6.4 is an unbelieveable work horse and handles like a dream while towing very heavy trailers. The lag and mileage problems are all the direct result of our gorvernment's(EPA and greenies) pipe dream of saving the planet and it is going to get WORSE by the year!!!

I used to get 16 religiously until the last reflash I haven't seen more than 14 since. job 1 08 3.73 gears f-250. I can't wait for my lease to be up in March so I can get rid of this POS. I am going to find a truck with a 7.3 and low miles and keep it I don't care how many times I have to rebuild it. and it ain't fords fault it's the EPA's.
