Any 7.3 owners in San Diego want to make a new friend??

Here's my issue:

["So I bought a 99 f350 7.3 diesel. It already has a tuning program loaded on it, but I don't know what tuner the owner used to program it. I bought a used superchips 1700 max tuner in hopes that I could change the tune on this truck to suit my needs. Well I plug the thing in and the tuner says "error code 9...not the stock program...call superchips" So I call superchips and they just try to sell me their latest version of their cortex tuner! Anyway, is this a problem of my vehicle already being tuned and having no stock program for the tuner to download, or is it a problem of having a second hand tuner that is VIN locked on another vehicle? How do i make this work??"]

Here's what I need:

I'm trying to find someone in san diego with a stock 7.3 diesel. I'm hoping you'll let me hook up my superchips tuner to your truck to see if it will throw the same error code when attached to a stock vehicle. Nobody seems to be able to give me a straight answer as to whether or not my error code is due to not having a stock program currently on my PCM. If I hook up the superchips tuner to a stock truck, and it throws the same error code, I'll know the problem is with the tuner being VIN locked to another vehicle.

Also, if anyone can direct me to someone who can re-flash my PCM to a stock setting, that would be awesome. I called the dealership and they said they would do it for $99. Seems a little high for simply plugging in the connector and pushing a couple of buttons. Does anyone have a trusted mechanic or have any suggestions on where I could go to reset my PCM?

>>>Even if you can't help me with my problems, and you live in San Diego, drop a line in this thread anyway! It would be nice to network with some other 7.3 owners in my area!

I know Jody at DP Tuner can flash the PCM for you but no idea on cost.

Are they located in SD, or would I have to send the PCM to him? I was thinking of getting one of his chips because everyone here seems to recommend them, but I like the idea of being able to check/reset codes with a plug-in tuner.

You would have to send him your PCM, he's in Georgia. I would give the DP some serious thought, everyone on here that used to have a Superchips, Edge, etc. can't believe how much better the DP Tuner is. Then, get a Scangauge for code reading.

The dealer can flash it as well. I'll bet they get a pretty penny though. You'll have to send it away for Jody to do it making the truck a very large paper weight until it gets back. You decide.

EDIT: Where & when did you buy the truck? Perhaps you can make the seller do something for you here.

You can do both. If you choose to install a chip the hand held tuner will still work as advertised for checking/clearing codes.

That would also negate the need to have the PCM reflashed as the chip will overwrite any other installed programming.
