E4OD .vs. 4R100 .vs. 4R70W ?

Hey ya'll, can anyone tell me the differences between these trannys:
E4OD, 4R100, & 4R70W ?

My truck has the E4OD and keeps eating through them once every year and a half ($2800 every time). I would like to get a stronger tranny that will last longer. Are any of these a candidate?

I have heard that the 4R100 replaced the E4OD recently, true?

I cant imagine an E4OD holding up behind the powerstroke, but yet they came with them - I dont know why, this tranny cant even take my 220HP 5.8L for over a year, it starts slipping, overheating, & shuddering. I love how it performs when its fresh though!

I think the 4R70W is too small, does it come in smaller trucks and cars? I am just not sure, help!

Thanks!

Have you ever got a chip for your tranny? I have the banks transcommand module, wow. What a difference. It really firms up the shifts and makes the tranny run a whole lot smoother. I have over 105K on my E40D and it is still runnin strong. You may wanna try a tranny cooler. My truck is a HD so it came stock with one. You may want to invest in a tranny temp guage as well to make sure you aren't burnin her up on the trails or anything. I do know the ones made after 96 (I think, not sure on the year) have better parts in them to make them stronger and last longer. And for $2800 you could probably get a JET E40D that would last FOREVER.

Oh ya, its always had a cooler, its a big one too!

I really want a tranny temp gauge, but cant find one.

1995 and up have the stronger E4OD, but mine has had all the upgrades and updates, which means it should be just as good right?

I wish the C6 had an OD! That even sounds like a good name for a tranny... EC6OD (electric C6 with overdrive). haha!

Thanks.

Have you ever been to BaumannEngineering.com? They have recommendations for an E40D buildup and what to replace, unless you have already done that. B&M makes a trans temp gauge for around $60, I have one in my 90 Bronco with an E40D and 5.8. I just rebuilt the E40D with every upgrade I could find and just took it in to identify clunking in the transmission after only 3000 miles. You can try to fix em and upgrade em but I think that overall they are a horrible transmission. Good luck anyway, about the swap to a 4r100 or 4r70, I don't think that your computer will work but it's worth looking into. I know that my truck will not even start without the E40D plugged into the computer. And don't forget to make sure the housings are the same length or close or else, you'll need to lengthen/shorten ur driveshafts and modify you trans crossmember.
